Small bore target shooting is an Olympic sport commonly shot over distances of 50m for .22" rim fire rifle and 10m for .177" air rifle.

Small bore target shooting can be addictive with the enthusiast constantly striving to improve. Competitive shooting includes both individual and team events, with each shooter free to choose whether to compete at club level or to participate in State, National or International events.

Small bore target shooting does not need to be competitive, however many people shoot just for enjoyment.

Lilydale Small Bore Rifle Club invites everyone to 'come and try', particularly juniors as they are the future of the sport.

Lilydale Small Bore Rifle Club

Lilydale Small Bore Rifle Club was established on its current site in 1958.

We can give you the opportunity to become proficient in different types and styles of shooting - .22 prone, .177 air rifle and .22 benchrest.

The club has a 6 bay 20m range for prone and benchrest .22 rifle shooting and a 4 bay 10m range for .177 air rifle.

We are normally open from 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday night (prone) and Thursday night (air rifle and benchrest) and occasionally shoot daylight events at weekends.

The club competes in TRV pennant competitions, and other postal competitions conducted by other clubs, or states. Members may also travel within the state and interstate to compete at other events.

 Location

Lilydale Small Bore Rifle Club is located at the rear of the Lilydale Station car park which is on the Olex Cables side of the railway line. The club can be accessed from the service road through the car park. Melway 38D4

Shooting at Lilydale

Safety is paramount.  Lilydale Small Bore Rifle Club has strict safety regulations which ensure that at no time is an individual placed at risk.  All shooting at the club is supervised by a qualified range officer.

As club rifles and equipment are available for use at Lilydale, it is not necessary to buy any equipment to participate in the sport. It should be noted, however, that if you wish to take a more serious approach to the sport your own equipment is essential for best performance.

Coaching is provided at Lilydale, and is part of the normal operation of the club.

Visitors

We are obliged to limit all non-members to a maximum of three visits and each visitor must sign the visitor’s book on each occasion.  These requirements are necessary to comply with the insurance policy covering members and visitors to all small bore rifle clubs.

Juniors must be accompanied by parents and be at least 12 years old.

All first time visitors will undergo a safety briefing before being allowed to shoot.

It is not necessary to hold a shooter’s licence to shoot at a supervised rifle range.  However to own a rifle, or purchase ammunition, a shooter must hold the appropriate licence.  The club can advise you as to what is required for a shooter's licence application.

Cost

As a visitor, the first shoot of the night is $7.00 which includes hire of a club rifle and other equipment, ammunition and coaching. Subsequent shoots during that visit are $4.00.

Club members pay $5.00 for their week's shooting.
