LILYDALE SMALL BORE RIFLE CLUB |
Bench RestLilydale Small Bore Rifle Club has a 3 bay 20m range for .22 benchrest. We are normally open from 7.30 p.m. on Thursday for .22 bench rest. The club competes in TRV pennant competitions, and other postal competitions conducted by other clubs, or states. Members may also travel within the state and interstate to compete at other events.
Have a look at the TRA and TRV websites for information on what competitions are coming up. 50 metre competition .22 bench rest rifle matches consist of a 60 shot event using a .22 calibre rifle. 20 metre competition .22 bench rest rifle matches consist of a 10 shot event using a .22 calibre rifle. The event is shot sitting upright, with the rifle resting on a bench, over a distance of 20 metres or 50 metres, usually on an indoor range with set lighting standards. In local competition men and women usually shoot together. In international competition, there are separate events for men and women. The Targets All small bore shooting uses paper targets, or "cards", with aiming marks which are black circles containing concentric scoring rings. There is no use of silhouette type aiming marks or any association with game shooting. The 20m card has 11 separate aiming marks. One aiming mark is for sighting, and the remaining 10 are scored at 1 shot per aiming mark with a maximum score of 10 per shot, i.e. a maximum possible score of 100 per card.
The 50m card has 11 separate aiming marks, 10 to score and 1 for sighting. The score is the result of 2 shots each onto the 10 scoring aiming marks (20 shots), with a maximum score of 10 per shot, making a maximum possible score of 200 per card. Three cards are shot in a 50 metre competition. The total possible score is 600.
The Equipment Rifles used for small bore target shooting are quite different to those used for other shooting sports. The .22 rifles are normally single shot bolt action and use target grade rimfire subsonic ammunition. Telescopic sights are fitted to benchrest rifles. You can, of course, use normal glasses if necessary. Rifles can cost up to $6000 new, but are available second-hand from around $300. Anschütz, Feinwerkbau and Walther are two common brands. Target ammunition starts at around $5.00 for a box of 50. Accessory equipment normally includes benchrest, bag, ear muffs or plugs. |
